13/07/07 Professor Christopher Leaver Appointed as Non-Executive Director
D1 Oils plc (D1), the UK-based global producer of biodiesel, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Christopher Leaver, Sibthorpian Professor of Plant Science and Head of Department, Plant Sciences, Oxford University, as a Non-Executive Director of the Company.
Professor Leaver is a leading expert in the understanding of the molecular and
biochemical basis of plant growth and differentiation. His significant
scientific contributions include research into the molecular, biochemical and
cellular basis of plant development. Professor Leaver was educated at Imperial
College, London, where he gained his doctorate in Plant Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Purdue University, USA, and a
Lecturer, Reader and Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He is a Visiting
Professor at the University of Western Australia, and the holder of many awards
in his field. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1986, and was
awarded a CBE for services to plant sciences in 2000.
Commenting on the appointment, Lord Oxburgh of Liverpool, Chairman of D1 Oils plc said:
'We are delighted that a distinguished scientist of the calibre of Christopher Leaver has agreed to join our Board. Christopher's experience in the field of plant science, and in particular in plant development and genetics, will be an
invaluable addition to the research and development programme for our principal feedstock crop, Jatropha curcas. Jatropha is an under-developed inedible oil crop that offers enormous potential for the development of sustainable biodiesel production. Understanding the breadth and diversity of its genetic characteristics will be vital to realising that potential and ensuring that it can be harnessed sustainably, and Christopher has much to contribute in this regard.'
In accordance with Schedule 2(g) of the AIM Rules, the following information is
provided:
Christopher John Leaver, aged 65, is a Trustee of the John Innes Foundation, and a Director of John Innes Bioprospects Limited and John Innes Agriculture Limited.
Over the past five years Christopher Leaver has been a Director of Isis Innovations Ltd., a University of Oxford Technology Transfer Company, a Trustee of the Natural History Museum and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Biochemical Society.
There are no further disclosures required to be made pursuant to paragraph 17 and schedule 2 - paragraph (g) of the AIM Rules for companies.
