Pioneering renewable fuels

There is now widespread consensus that the availability of oil, the key fossil fuel of the last one hundred years, is peaking, and that production and availability will decline. However, demand for oil continues to grow.

There is also a consensus among the world scientific community that global warming caused by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a fact. Internal combustion engines account for between 20-30% of global emissions. Emissions of CO2 and other GHGs from transport are among the fastest growing contributors to global warming.

The challenge is to find cost-effective alternatives to oil that do not damage the climate or have other environmental disadvantages.

If we manage them carefully, liquid biofuels can be part of the answer. Because they are produced from plants, burning them returns to the atmosphere the CO2 the plants used as they grew.

Sustainably produced renewable fuels offer an alternative to the scarce fossil fuels that contribute to global warming. We are among the first companies in the world to build a business dedicated to meeting the growing international need for renewable fuels. We are building a global business to develop alternative crops into commercial biofuels that can replace fossil fuels.

Biodiesel produces lower emissions of the GHGs that cause climate change and offers greater security of supply by reducing dependence on supplies of mineral oil. The most promising sustainable biodiesel crops grow in the developing world, and the growing and harvesting of these crops offers a means for developing countries to achieve sustainable growth.
